Parent Teacher Conferences
Thank you for coming to join us this week for Term 1 conferences. We know that we don’t get very many opportunities to meet face to face with all of the partners in your child’s education – family, teacher and student – and we really appreciate you taking the time out of your very busy life to do so. It means a great deal to children to know that their family and teacher are working together. As we count down the “sleeps” until our holiday, it’s very normal for children to get excited and have trouble both containing their energy and getting to sleep at night – parents and teachers too! I know we can all try to have fun and enjoy the excitement of these final few days.
Hour of Code
This week all students tried out the “Hour of Code, a global initiative to get students interested in computer science. If your child enjoyed it, they can continue to learn for free on the code.org website – you can join in and learn together! Check out our Facebook page for photos!
Hanukkah 2015 began at sunset on Sunday, December 6, and will end on Monday, December 14. Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights. Many Jewish people celebrate Hanukkah at home by lighting the menorah. Each night they light one additional candle to the number from the previous night for a total of 8 nights. The miracle of Hanukkah is that only one vial of oil was found with just enough oil for one day, and yet it lasted for eight full days. Part of the celebrations usually include playing driedel, and eating special foods unique to Hanukkah. Some people also sing Hanukkah songs or exchange gifts after lighting the menorah. To all of our TE Scott families who celebrate in the Jewish tradition … Happy Hanukkah!
