Terrific Start to our 2017-2018 School Year!

Thank you to all of our staff who made this September’s start up run so smoothly. Our teachers have worked long hours this past week getting their classrooms and curricula ready. Thank you parents for your patience during our first week of school.  As you already know, we are required to wait for confirmation from the District regarding our final staffing before we place our students in their classes. We have NOT yet received confirmation.  Students will continue to work in grade groups on Monday, and we are hopeful that our classes will be set by Tuesday.

When can we buy student planners?

Great question … Planners will go on sale next Tuesday.    We encourage all students in Grades 1-7 to purchase a School Planner at a cost of $2.00 (Toonie).  “As part of the provincial student learning grant, the student planner has been reduced from $5 to $2 for the 2017-18 school year. The remaining funds from this learning grant have been used to provide learning resources to schools.”  Included in the planner is our school code of conduct, school calendar and school district information. We find this to be an excellent tool for facilitating home/school communication, as well as for developing our students’ organizational skills. If you are in grade 1 thru 7…

Bring a Toonie on Tuesday to purchase your planner!

 TE Scott Terry Fox Event

All parents/family are encouraged to join us. Special Thank You to our staff  for organizing this event!

This event will be a go rain or shine!

Bringing back … West Coast Recess!

All students will get fresh air and physical activity daily during our morning 15 minute recess, even in wet weather. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for whatever Mother Nature may have for us every day! In more inclement weather we may hold indoor recess at the lunch period. We encourage students to have a dry change of socks, shoes and pants at school.

Picture Day … Tuesday, September 19th — practice your smile!

Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt day is an annual event held each September 30th in remembrance of the Canadian Residential School system and the impact of this government policy on First Nations. Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013.  It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.

This date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year.  It also gives teachers time to plan events that will include children, as we want to ensure that we are passing the story and learning on to the next generations.

Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.

On Friday September 30th we are asking all TE Scott students, parents and staff to wear an orange shirt or something orange to show that ALL CHILDREN MATTER!
